While cops cant be everywhere even though increasing crime rates have ensured that effective surveillance and local patrol beats are given due attention to prevent and control crimes in areas prone to these, e.g. suburban localities, villages and off-beat locations, there is still a need to learn how to tell a conman from the impulsive trespasser or harmless neighborhood prankster in order to see through the trickster.

Many such felons are addicted to the high the crime such as breaking-in or pilfering from a super-market or even a neighbor’s larder can give them; other felons may be smooth talkers and manage to charm their way into your home or out of business completely!

The people you need to watch out for are not the ones looking for the cheap thrills of robbing a little old lady of her umbrella or you of your household appliances; no, they are desperate and perhaps even a bit crazed, therefore unpredictable at times. However, that does not mean there is nothing you can do about them.

On the contrary, since you know such depraved people exist and can pose potential threats to your security, you can take preventive measures to deter their break-in or making a getaway after committing a crime.

Keep all entry points clear of shrubbery and over-growth; avoid stacking up items that affect your visibility of the entrance at any point.

Keep windows and doors locked tight; install magnetic sensors on these if possible to alert you of unlawful entry.

Be wary of any back-door entry modes, such as back-alley points most criminals prefer to use in order to break-into vulnerable houses or un-manned driveways.

Install a driveway alarm system if you can to alert you of persons making surreptitious entry; opt for a video camera option if possible so you can identify and thus, allow or deny access to your property to the visitor.

Keep a dog – not the timid lap-dog kind, but the brutal, bone-crunching Pit Bull variety that is lean, mean and hungry for attacking or deterring potential thieves. Put up a sign saying you have a mean dog at the very least, this will make potential criminals think twice before entering your home!
