Looking for an apartment? Keep note of these things and you’ll have everything straight away when you begin your search. You can never be too safe. Likely, most people find out about some of these problems AFTER they move in, when they easily could have realized the issues before ever signing their lease.

Costs

How expensive is rent? What’s the security/deposit? Are utilities included, if not, how much should I expect to pay? Is the apartment furnished? Can I afford to furnish it if not?

Property owner

Is the property owner available? Will they respond promptly to my queries? Do I have any friends who used this service? What do the current tenants think?

Security

Is the area safe? Are the locks adequate? Are there enough locks? Is everything well lit? Are there peepholes? Are there alarm systems in place?

Comfort

What floor is your room on? Is it close to your school/workplace? Are their laundry facilities? Is there a bus line nearby? Is it in close proximity to grocery stores?

Apartments

Is the kitchen large enough? Is there any damage? Is the floor in good condition? Is there air conditioning and a heater? Is a fridge/freezer included? Are they large enough? Does the apartment have it’s own hot water tank? How is the water pressure? Is there good lighting? Are all parts of the apartment (doors, mirrors, handles, etc) in place? Can I hear the neighbors? Can they hear me? Do all of the outlets and light switches work? Is the house insulated properly?

Neigborhood

Is there parking? Is there enough parking for everyone? How about for guests? How is the condition of the building? Is it a safe neighborhood? Is there a history of crime in the area? Are there any noise concerns around the neighborhood like airports or trains?
